Open Educational Resources
This guide explains what Open Educational Resources are, where to find them, and how to use them. Utilising Open Educational Resources can be key to ensuring that no student is left behind due to being unable to access reading list material. This can happen when reading list material isn’t in the library collections, or is available only in a limited amount, so the amount of students who can access it at any one time is restricted. Open Educational Resources materials are at the same scholarly standard as restricted material, but have been published in an Open Access platform for equity of access.
Preparing Reading Lists
Below is a video explaining how to build up your reading lists by searching and utilising materials available in the Library. It is important to check that reading materials you assign are accessible by students, either through being available in the Library or through utilising Open Educational Resources.
Library 101: Helping Your Students Use the Library
The Library has developed a Library 101 LibGuide, which is intended to walk students, clearly and simply, through the basics of everything they need to know when it comes to using the library. We have provided detailed explanations, step-by-step instructions, and screenshots to support our students to use the resources thoroughly.
This includes step-by-step login instructions, with screenshots, for every database the Library has access to, which should help to minimise delays in students completing their assignments using the databases that you recommend to them.
We hope to break down the barrier that the Library can be for some students, to make our resources more approachable and easier to navigate. This will hopefully ease the anxiety, confusion, or apathy that can prevent students using the library, and will aid them in finding accessible and appropriate material to support their studies.
Please share the 101 LibGuide with your students!
Creating Permalinks to Link to Library Material
This guide shows you how to share library material with your students by creating a permalink to library materials. Using a permalink is important as it means you aren’t breaching copyright by distributing information outside of copyright law. You can find out more on copyright for lecturers in the section below this one.
Guide to Copyright in Ireland
This guide helps you understand what can and cant be uploaded to Blackboard, the extent resources can be distributed, etc.
Library Guides
We have a range of LibGuides covering various subjects, which can be used as jumping-off points for students to find information on their subject area.
We also have guides teaching skills such a referencing, online media literacy, avoiding plagiarism, etc.
Events & Exhibitions
We are able to accommodate you to hold events in the Library space. We have seating and presentation facilities available. Please click here to book.
We are also able to host online exhibitions for you. In the summer of 2020, and exhibition on the Top Hat music venue, done in collaboration with Music Industry students from the New Media Studies, Business Studies and Arts Management course and the Lexicon library, was unable to take place due to COVID-19. Library staff were able to pivot the exhibit to work in an online space. If you would be interested in hosting a similar online exhibit please contact us at infolib@iadt.ie.
You can view the exhibit here: Top Hat Exhibition
